Landscape Design Ideas That Add Privacy Your Backyard

Landscape Design Ideas That Add Privacy Your Backyard

Your landscaping and outdoor spaces offer a functional, entertaining extension of your home. Designed properly, your home’s exterior landscape can provide beautiful, comfortable, inviting areas to entertain guests or to relax and rejuvenate after a hard day’s work. It also offers a fun, safe space for children and pets to play and experience fresh air and sunlight. Planning your landscaping so that it offers an appropriate level of privacy is an important way to enjoy everything the outdoors can provide for you and your family.

When planning your landscape, consider these design elements that can help provide maximum privacy and peace while also enhancing your home’s look and feel.

Privacy Fences

A popular approach to adding privacy to your landscape is to install fencing, which comes in a variety of styles, heights, and levels of transparency so you can achieve the design you like best. Privacy fences not only offer a visual buffer and protection against trespassers, but they also provide excellent noise reduction.

Screens

Small backyards may feel too closed in by a tall fence or stone wall. But open panel screens, trellises, and arbors offer a more open, spacious alternative to help you avoid feeling confined. Such screening devices can be largely left as-is, or you can train vines, roses, and other climbing greenery to cover it, for as green a look as you desire.

Trees

If you like green landscaping options that enhance your landscape’s privacy, consider planting deciduous shade trees, which are effective at blocking views from your neighbors’ second floors and elevated patios and porches. These trees’ large canopies also offer cooling shade during the summer months. They lose their leaves in winter, though, so if you want green privacy all year round, opt for evergreens instead.

Shrubs and Hedges

Shrubs and hedges provide a great natural alternative to fencing. If your yard is small, opt for columnar evergreens like Italian cypress and arborvitae. If you have more room, box hedges and other options may be just what you need to achieve the secluded space and natural beauty you’re looking for. And while fences may be regulated by city ordinances, shrubs and hedges usually are not, giving you more options.

Large Plants

If your landscaping goals include adding privacy to your yard, you’ll probably want to invest in large plants as part of your landscaping design. Rather than buying small plants at a local nursery, invest in a few larger plants that will immediately add privacy when planted. For swift results, choose plants that are four-feet or five-feet tall.

Proper Care for Your Tulsa Landscaping

As you invest in enhancing the landscaping of your Tulsa area home, remember to plan for your lawn and greenery’s maintenance needs. A well-kept landscape will last for many years looking beautiful, especially when properly and carefully tended by people with a green thumb.
