There’s a best time for everything
Spring was a crazy time for us, as usual. Now that we’ve slowed down to a steady pace, this is one of our favorite times of the year to take on the right projects.
Before we get to our list of ideal summer landscaping projects, I want to mention a few of the benefits that accrue to you.
- Work is often completed more quickly and efficiently, which leads to less disruption and a more favorable price point.
- The longer days allow us to extend them when necessary, so we can finish what we started without returning for a partial day.
- The soil is dry and workable, and that makes short work of nearly every type of service we offer.
5 Landscaping projects suited for summer

#1. Drainage Solutions: Summer storms often expose drainage inefficiencies. Thankfully, there are gaps between them, so we can see the problem clearly and solve it before the next heavy rains arrive.
#2. Irrigation Repairs: Overworked irrigation systems often reach their breaking point this time of year. Obviously, you want that fixed as soon as possible to keep your lawn and garden beds vibrant and free of heat stress.
#3. Hardscapes: These projects require significant time for mobilization and getting materials on site to prep for walls and patios. That work goes more smoothly during dry summer days.
#4. Outdoor Lighting: This is the one landscaping enhancement you can use right away. The slower summer pace allows time to experience your new outdoor lighting at your leisure before we finalize the installation.
#5. Site Work – Some planting projects require substantial site work to accommodate improvements. Summer is a perfect time to handle changes in bed designs and remove overgrown or dead plantings to better visualize and prepare for new plantings and other improvements.
One more thought
We’ve discovered over the years that summertime vacations give homeowners the quiet time they need to gather their thoughts on projects they’ve been considering.
We often hear about this after the kids are back in school and things have quieted down again. If it turns out you’re ready now, you may consider scheduling the work during your summer vacation.
Thanks to digital communications, we can keep you informed of our progress while you relax and enjoy your time with family.
We only ask that you recruit a neighbor to help out with watering while you are gone. The early days of acclimation are critical for new plantings. Even with automatic irrigation, manual checks and supplemental watering are recommended.
